On Wednesday 27th November, Old Caterhamians RFC hosted one of many Rugby Football Union (RFU) All Schools Festivals that have been taking place all over the country. The festival saw pupils from de Stafford School (Caterham), Oakwood (Horley) and Warwick (Redhill) join together at the Old Caterhamians ground, Park Avenue, Caterham, to play and enjoy rugby union.
Gareth Jackson, Club Coach Coordinator for the RFU in Surrey said: "The All Schools project aims to kick start Rugby union in schools that currently play little, or no rugby, and make it sustainable, with a link to a club. The Surrey Rural Cluster, works with de Stafford School (Caterham), Oakwood (Horley), Warwick (Redhill). By Old Cats hosting the festival, it means that potential new players to the game discover where to carry on their participation outside of school. During school time, pupils will take part in Rugby sessions from RFU qualified coaches, who will also mentor teachers to carry on from where they lift off. Hopefully the outcome from the project will ensure Old Cats, as well as the other clubs involved, will have a sustained stream of future players coming to them. The festival at Old Cats goes a long way to ensure these children have a positive experience whilst playing Rugby."
Old Caterhamians were incredibly pleased to have hosted the All Schools Festival and hope to see many of the pupils return to Old Cats to train with the club as well.
