The robber captured on CCTV On Wednesday 22nd January, detectives from East Surrey CID appealed to the nation for help in solving an armed robbery at a post office in Bletchingley. The incident, which occurred at around 6.15am on Tuesday, 31 December featured in the CCTV section of the popular BBC 1 show Crimewatch at 9pm. A man entered the store on the High Street and threatened a man in his 30s and a woman in her 50s, before restraining them by their hands. No injuries were reported. A firearm which is believed to have been used in the incident was found in a lay-by off Little Common Lane. Firearms experts have assessed the weapon and it is believed to be a gas powered BB gun. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Antony Archibald, said: "We continue to appeal for information on the man seen in this CCTV still as he remains wanted in connection with this offence. I would urge members of the public not to approach or challenge him but to contact officers immediately if you can identify him or know his whereabouts. "Quite often the key to solving crime is found in the local community which is why we view the local media as a vital tool as part of our investigations and I would like to thank our local newspapers and news websites for their support so far in featuring this incident. "However, sometimes the answer to solving crime falls outside of the county and when we believe this to be the case we will appeal nationally for information which is why this will be the eighth case East Surrey CID has featured on Crimewatch over the past year. The appeals have resulted in six arrests and two charges and I am hopeful the show will be able to help us with this offence. "I believe featuring this case on national TV demonstrates our commitment in solving crime in East Surrey and sends a clear message to criminals that we will go to great lengths to bring them to justice.” A sum of money, lottery scratch cards and cigarettes were stolen during the robbery. Anyone who has information the identity of the man in the CCTV or anything else which may assist with the investigation is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101 (or 999 in an emergency) quoting Operation Ruhr. The independent charity Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 and any information passed directly to them which leads to the arrest and charge of a person in relation to this offence may be eligible for a reward of up to £1,000. Information passed to the police will not qualify.
