Sam Gyimah MP planting a tree at Farleigh Golf Club, assisted by the Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Beverley Connolly. On Friday 14th February, Sam Gyimah MP was at the Farleigh Golf Club to participate in a historic tree planting ceremony, the first of eleven acres’ worth of new woodland to be planted by the Club. Farleigh Golf Club is surrounded by ancient semi-natural woodland (ASNW), and with the guidance of the Woodland Trust, the new trees are being planted along the boundary of a historic forest dating back to the Middle Ages. Within ten years the trees will be over 10ft tall, providing a multitude of benefits to both humans and wildlife. Speaking after the event, Sam said: "I was honoured to have been invited to play a part in this symbolic event, and it was great to see that so many people were able to attend despite the torrential rain on Friday. "As custodians of our natural environment, we have a responsibility to ensure that historic woodland around places like Farleigh is preserved, for the enjoyment and well-being of generations to come. My thanks to everyone involved in this wonderful project.” |
