Last year's Spring Show. Across Caterham and its district, gardeners, allotmenteers, bakers and crafters are preparing exhibits. Their labours of love are for the Caterham & District Horticultural Society spring show. It takes place on Saturday 26th April at Hillcroft School, Chaldon Road, Caterham. The show will open to the public from 2pm, with presentation of cups at 4.30pm. The entrance fee is 50 pence. Society Chairman Debbie Fox is looking forward to the show. Debbie said: “With the warm spring weather, it is a race against time for us to stage the show. Daffodils and tulips in my garden are already in flower. There will be plenty to see with table exhibits from talented children’s groups and spring floral arrangements.” Highlights in the 43 show categories look set to include the floral arrangements. Themes include 'spring flowers with a twist'. Children will exhibit miniature gardens. Judges will also sample cheese straws and marmalade made by hopeful entrants. The winner of last year's Children's Class: 'A Horrible Monster'. Caterham Valley Parish Council is sponsoring a category in the show. One lucky school class or youth organisation (ages 6-16 years), will win £12 for their display of flowers or handicrafts. This must be their own work. There are also second and third prizes. A parish council representative will present the prize at 4.30pm on the day. The date for groups to register entries to this category is Tuesday 8th April. Young hopefuls at last year's show. The Society is also looking for the best young local gardener aged 16-21 years old. It has introduced the Roy Skelton Cup. The cup marks the contribution of the Society's much loved previous chairman of the same name. To win it, the young competitor has to score the highest total points in horticultural classes in the 2014 spring, summer and autumn shows.
