On Thursday 17th June a concert performed by an international troupe of musicians to raise money for the Mathieson Music Trust in India was held at the Sacred Heart Church in Caterham.
The concert was led by international cellist, Anup Kumar Biswas, the founder of the Trust that houses and educates the neediest children in Calcutta. Anup's protegé Dipak Sapul also performed on the cello, alongside his teacher Anup. Dipak used to be a pupil at the Music School but now teaches the students himself.
The other musicians were Donald Boothman, a baritone singer from the USA, Paval Timofejevsky, a pianist from Russia and Indian dancer, Soumita Roy.
During the concert Anup thanked the audience, saying: "As soon as a child arrives at the Mathieson Music School he is handed an instrument and it is great to see them learn and grow into talented musicians. Thank you so much for supporting our work in Calcutta."
Paul Hooper, who organised the concert, said: "It is fantastic the work Anup does with his helpers for the children in Calcutta. The money we have raised has gone to a very good cause."
