Mrs Vi Mattock, Caterham's oldest resident, passed away at the age of 104 on Wednesday 9th June just one month before her 105th birthday.
Born in 1905 in Bletchingley, Vi's family moved to Caterham when she was three, where she attended St. John's School which at that time was situated in the building now occupied by the Miller Centre in Godstone Road. In 1924 Vi married Sydney Mattock at St. John's Church and they had three daughters.
Sydney passed away 30 years ago, and for the last 20 years Vi was a regular visitor to the Douglas Brunton Centre in Caterham where she liked to help out by preparing the tables for lunch. In May Vi was a guest at the 'Reachout' event at the centre, where she chatted happily with her friends and enjoyed the meal and entertainment laid on by the members of Caterham Rotary Club.
Vi's funeral took place at Worth Crematorium on Wednesday 16th June, followed by a memorial service at the Douglas Brunton Centre attended by her family and friends.
