The grounds of 'The Chalet' in Tupwood Lane, Caterham, were open to the public last Sunday for an Open Garden event hosted by David Gold to raise funds for a local charity. David is patron of The Tandridge Community Fund ('TCF'), that has been set up by Oxted resident, Mike Moss MBE, to benefit groups and organisations within Tandridge. Despite competing with the Biggin Hill Air Fair, other local events and England playing in the World Cup, attendance was good and the event raised £850 for the charity. Rita Henry of 'Four Seasons Floral Design' florists in Whyteleafe helped to boost the funds by selling raffle tickets for a beautiful flower arrangement, and money was also raised by sales of David's autobiography, 'Pure Gold'.
David was pleased to welcome so many guests to his garden and said afterwards: "I enjoy helping to put something back into the community in this way and I'm pleased today has been such a success for the Tandridge Community Fund. I think they did very well to organise the event and have so many people attending on a day when there are so many other things going on. I am looking forward to hosting another event for the Fund next summer."
TCF Chairman, Mike Moss, said: "We had a very good day. I am very grateful to David Gold for helping our Fund. He worked very hard to make sure everything was ready for when we arrived and was with us all day chatting to the guests and making sure things went smoothly. I would also like to thank everyone who came along on the day. As well as raising money, the event helped us to raise the profile of our Fund and explain how it works to people."
