Last Friday, 23rd July the Whyteleafe Comedy Club at the Whyteleafe Tavern hosted an Edinburgh Fringe Night featuring Joe Rowntree and Andrew Clover who are both highly acclaimed acts on the comedy circuit. The Comedy Club at the rear of the Tavern showcased the two comedians to a packed audience who had paid just £5 a ticket for the evening's entertainment. The delightful venue provided a great atmosphere for the show with both comedians providing laughs by the bucketful for the audience. Many had enjoyed a huge plateful of landlord Tom Dempsey's famous barbecue beforehand in the garden before taking their seats for the show. Tom and his partner Becky were delighted the evening was such a success. Tom said: "I think we have a really good thing going here and we want to let everyone know what a great venue for comedy the Whyteleafe Tavern is. We've had some cracking acts and get excellent feedback from everyone who comes here. It's been a brilliant night." The Whyteleafe Comedy Club meets on the 2nd Friday of each month at 8pm in the Whyteleafe Tavern's function room, featuring comedians from the London circuit and beyond. The next show on Friday 13th August features English Comedian of the Year 2009, Matthew Osborn as well as two finalists from the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year 2010 contest which attracted over 1000 entrants. One of these is Dan Wright who co-hosted the TV show Big Cook Little Cook. Local comedian Jay Rolfe from Warlingham is also in the line up. The September 10th show will feature two more Laughing Horse finalists and the headline act is the hilarious Shazia Mirza whose many TV credits include appearing on Have I Got News For You.
