There is no stopping local restaurant owner, Gio Gonzalez who succeeded in completing the London to Paris cycle ride for the second time in June to raise money for the Geoff Thomas Foundation leukaemia charity. Gio who owns Casa Lola Tapas restaurant in Caterham and Las Fuentes in Purley, took part in the cycle ride for the first time last year and this year managed to beat his time by three hours. He set off on 24th June to complete the threeday ride in just 21 hours, cycling 107 miles per day. So far he has raised £2,250 in sponsorship and he is hoping to reach his target of £3,000. Gio said "There were a lot of superstars this year including many sportsmen such as Stephen Roach, John Salako, Nigel Mansell, Will Carling and Geoff Thomas. It was unbelievable! It was an experience and a feeling that I can't describe; the atmosphere and people helping each other, both physically and morally. It was exhausting because of the heat but it was very well supported so that kept us going." To help Gio reach his £3,000 target you can make a donation at http://www.justgiving. co.uk/gio-gonzalez |
