Last week saw work commence on the upgrade to 'The Square' in Caterham that will revitalise the commercial hub of the town. The project is part of the 'Caterham Community Partnership's ('CCP's) Shabby to Smart' initiative to smarten up Caterham following the ABC ('A Better Caterham') Healthcheck survey in 2007. CCP succeeded in getting funding for improvements to the town from the South East England Development Agency, Surrey County Council, Tandridge District Council and the local parish councils. Nigel Wilkinson of CCP said: "The work started promptly and everything is progressing smoothly. The removall of the unsightly railings has already opened up The Square and the men are working very well." Contract Manager, Steve Martin, who is supervising the work said: "Barring unforseen disasters we are well on course to complete the work by early September." |
