Hundreds of shoppers were evacuated from Morrisons in Church Walk, Caterham on Wednesday following the deluge of rain that fell during the afternoon. The store was closed for an hour and a half and staff were still mopping up the water when the store re-opened. Jim Moorey, Deputy Assistant Manager at Morrisons, said: "Underneath the store there is a river and we can get flooded when the level of the river suddenly goes up. The rainwater pours down the hill into the drainage system which can't cope in exceptional circumstances like this. It's not a very regular occurrence – this is the third time we have closed in two years due to flooding."
