On Sunday 7th August, over 300 classic cars and bikes travelled to The Bull Colosseum pub at Chelsham Common in Warlingham for the annual Classic Car Show organised by ‘Blood, Sweat ‘n’ Gears’.
Over £2,500 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support and St. Catherine’s Hospice again this year through admission donations and a raffle.
Visitors jived to live music by The Rat Pack, many of them dressed in vintage costume in honour of the occasion.
Cars in all makes and models travelled from far and wide to take part in the show, which has become a popular addition to the Classic Car Show calendar.
Organiser and founder of ‘Blood, Sweat ‘n’ Gears’ classic car club, Richard Howell, said: “ I set up the club as a bit of a joke three years ago. Now it has grown and grown and we have over 450 members on Facebook.”
During the afternoon trophies were handed out for Best British Car, Best American Car, Best Hot Rod, Best Bike/Trike and Best in Show.
Philippe Retourne, winner of the Best Bike with his 1961 BSA Bantum, said: “I’m really chuffed my bike has won a trophy. The judge came up and said: “Who does this bike belong to?” and when I told him it was mine the judge said it was his favourite and he was awarding me the trophy for Best Bike!”
Philippe is well-known on the local jive circuit and owns ‘Guitar Nuts’ guitar shop in Coulsdon.
