On Saturday 4^th September guards from regiments that were based at Caterham Barracks before its closure in 1995 visited the Old Caterhamians Rugby Club for the day.  The main event was a   friendly match played in good spirit between the guards and the Old Caterhamians,  which the Old Cats won 41-7.   Entertainment on the day included sideshows, an Army Recruitment stand and a giant inflatable assault course with soldiers on hand to provide assistance!  Other attractions included a bouncy castle, face painting and a Pimms Tent run by Caterham Rotary Club.  The club bar was open to the public for the day and a barbecue supplied a steady stream of freshly cooked burgers and chicken.  A bucket collection during the day in Caterham Valley and outside Tescos in Caterham-on-the-Hill raised £750.  The special event continued into the evening with a formal dinner in the clubhouse during which there was a raffle and auction and the proceeds from the evening came to £1,200 to add to the profits for the day.

Old Cats Chairman, Steve Dalgleish, said:  "The day was a great success with altogether over £3,500 being raised for Help for Heroes, the Guards Charity and the Royal British Legion.  The Help for Heroes stand alone raised £650 - the public have been incredibly generous!  We were very proud to host the guards for the day and they have invited us back for a return game at Woolwich Barracks at the end of the season.

"It was good to see little kids getting involved as well as members of the public who remember the guards being at Caterham before the barracks closed."
