On Thursday 23rd September, members of Street youth centre in Caterham Valley held a presentation ceremony to thank everyone who had helped them in the setting up and opening of the new facility. MP Sam Gyimah was amongst the guests who filled the youth centre in Godstone Road Caterham Valley to listen to a speech made by members of the management committee. Each of the guests were then presented with a commemorative coin, kindly donated by Caterham and Caterham Harestone Rotary Clubs. Following the presentations, refreshments were served to the guests who had the opportunity to mingle with members of Street and learn more about the service the centre provides. The evening was organized by the management committee that is formed of 12 young people. One of the committee members, Hannah Wingrave, said: "We are really grateful to everyone who has helped us to get Street running. It's a fantastic facility as it provides opportunities, such as courses in music and food and careers advice, for young people in a safe and well equipped environment." Jane Wilson, the Youth and Development Officer for Tandridge said: "I am extremely pleased with how the event has gone as it gave the young people a chance to show members of the community the opportunities they have been given and how valuable the youth centre is to the community. I am very proud of the Management Committee for having the courage to speak publicly to everyone - they are an inspiration to us all." |
