The end of October to early November was extremely busy with Halloween, Fireworks and Remembrance Sunday. The response of the community particularly in relation to anti social behaviour and respecting everyone has been excellent!! The number of incidents called in was greatly reduced. This was, I know, assisted by retailers who questioned young people regarding age in relation to fireworks and the reasons for wanting eggs and flour, so thank you everyone for your support on this. Those of you that read my Facebook page 'Burtenshaw's Beat' will be aware that the Monday following Remembrance Sunday I was disappointed to write about a minority of car drivers that my staff at Remembrance Parades had to deal with, who demanded to get through road closures with one driver in their twenties not understanding or knowing what it was all about. They did not get through. Unfortunately the District has had a spate of damage where persons we believe using catapults have fired small stones at vehicles and house windows causing damage and in some instances smashing them. It is fortunate that no-one has been hurt. Do you know who owns a catapult and may be responsible? Please call us on 0845 125 2222 or crime stoppers on 0800 555 1111. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has taken time to speak, email and write cards to me following the news that I am being compulsorily retired at the end of March. It certainly touched me and does make one realise the work by me and my team is much appreciated by you the local community. As I said last month I intend to enjoy to the full these next few, albeit final months as your Neighbourhood Inspector so I am not saying adieu just yet! We are fast approaching the end of the year, with Christmas for those who celebrate it, less than a month away. Please be safe, remember security of your vehicles and houses, and leave nothing on display. I end 2010 by wishing you all a peaceful joyous Christmas. |
