Councillor Alan Jones is this year's Chairman of Tandridge District Council. He recently issued the following New Year Message: "As Vice-Chairman last year, I considered myself as an 'apprentice' chairman, preparing to take on the role for this year and it stood me in good stead for the time I have spent so far this year travelling to a variety of events in both Tandridge and across Surrey with my wife Yvonne. Having met so many people who are helping to make life more pleasant for the vulnerable in our society, it was a pleasure last month, to invite them to my Civic Reception for the Voluntary Sector. The relaxed atmosphere presented an opportunity for all to meet, including many of the Tandridge officers, in a social rather than the usual professional setting. In my year so far, I have met experienced leaders of many organisations who accept there will be difficulties ahead because of the huge national debt, but they are still upbeat as they prepare to find other ways to resource their highly commendable efforts. For the remaining term of my Civic Year that ends in May 2011, I know I shall continue to meet with many more like-minded people who will be facing 2011 with some optimism. Christmas is a time of the year to reflect on the past and prepare for the future, as well as relaxing, spending time with friends and family, remembering those who we have lost and thinking of those less fortunate than ourselves. I am very proud and honoured to be the Chairman of Tandridge Council for this Civic Year. My wife and I wish you all a very happy and peaceful New Year." |
