Staff warmed up for the event at the launch of the walk outside the St Catherine's shop on Croydon Road, Caterham yesterday. The women-only half marathon walk is a fantastic way to raise much needed funds to provide hospice care and support for patients and their loved ones across the area. Attracting ladies of all ages, it's a great opportunity to team up with friends, family, work or school mates to do something out of the ordinary and make a huge difference to a local charity. This is the fourth year the event has been held and in the previous three years, an incredible £420,000 has been raised. Last year alone, over 1,000 women strode out in style on the 13 mile course, which starts and finishes at Horsham Park, raising £160,000. St Catherine's Event Fundraiser, Jen Wickham, said: "The Midnight Walk is a real stand out in our event calendar and every year women tell us how much they enjoy the walk and its atmosphere. Whether you are walking in memory of a loved one, or want to challenge yourself in support of local cause, we hope 1,300 ladies will line up with us for a night to remember." Although the Midnight Walk is ladies-only, men are encouraged to show their support by volunteering as event marshals for the night. Entry fee is ?5 and the closing date for applications is 27th May 2011. Every walker receives a special Midnight Walk t-shirt, email newsletters to help with training and sponsorship ideas as well as refreshments and a well-deserved breakfast and medal on the night. This year's Midnight Walk is being promoted in association with Southern Railway.
