Members of the Caterham Rotary clubs have been out in force promoting their 'Focus on the Crocus' project in Church Walk, Caterham, lately. On Saturday 19th and Saturday 26th February the Rotarians, along with a giant white rabbit, have been telling shoppers about their goal of eradicating polio worldwide in the next five years. Crocus bulbs planted last October are now bursting into bloom, their purple colour symbolic of the dye used to mark a little child's finger once they have been vaccinated against polio. Mike Smith, Chairman of Caterham Rotary said: "'End Polio Now' really does save lives. It's wonderful to think that we are giving tiny children in countries thousands of miles away a chance at avoiding this crippling disease which can sometimes claim lives." |
