Since the last report, Whyteleafe FC has completed its games and finished in a respectable 16th place in the league.

As previously mentioned season 2010/11 always promised to be a tough one after the Whyteleafe committee took the decision to cut the playing budget to zero in an attempt to give the club a more secure founding for the future. The decision was considered a gamble as relegation could have had long term implications for the club, but full credit must go to manager Nicky English and his team of coaches together with the players for fighting hard week in, week out and achieving the target set for them, ie - staying in the Ryman League.

Going into the final three games of the season relegation was still a mathematical possibility, and fears were compounded after slumping to a shocking 6-2 defeat to Leatherhead and then a narrow 1-0 reverse to Dulwich Hamlet, whilst teams around us picked up points.

It all meant that Leafe went into their last game needing a win to be certain of staying up and a win is what they achieved, by 2-0 over Horsham YMCA. As it turned out other results went in their favour and they would have been safe anyway, but the win had the added bonus of lifting the club above several others including local rivals Merstham and into 16th. As is now traditional the end of season awards party followed the final game and captain fantastic Fred Fleming ended up with a clean sweep of the Manager's, Players' and Supporters' Player of the Year trophies. A well deserved reward for someone that stuck with the club throughout, and continually inspired the younger players.

So thoughts can now move on to next season, and hopefully we have something positive to build on.
