On Wednesday, 18th May, Caterham Bowls Club began their Centenary celebrations in very grand style with a match against Bowls England. The President, Joan Balding, had travelled down from Lincolnshire for the match joined by other Bowls England players from right across the country. The match was preceded by a buffet lunch generously provided by Diane Pink of Pinks Funeral Directors. After an enjoyable match the teams relaxed over a meal and drinks in the clubhouse. President Joan congratulated the club on reaching its 100 year milestone and complimented them on their premises and the greenkeepers for providing an excellent playing surface. Following the visit, Michael Miller, President of Caterham Bowls Club, said: "It was a pleasure to play against this representative side from Bowls England. The game was played in a most friendly way and although there were no Internationals in their team, they were all good players. With this in mind it was very good for us to scrape a win! The next big event for the Bowls Club will be Foundation Day on Sunday 5th June when the club will be exactly 100 years old. The celebrations will include a buffet meal with an Edwardian theme and some members will take to the green, perhaps dressed in Edwardian style!
