On Friday, 26th February, staff and pupils at Godstone Village School had an unexpected visitor when an injured male mute swan crashed into the school grounds.
Christine Freeman, a teacher at the school, said: "We think the male swan was flying past the school and caught his beak on something and got disorientated. He swooped very low almost hitting one of the workmen working on the roof of the school and crash-landed in the wildlife garden. The injury to his beak was not serious but he didn't have enough space to take off and fly away again."
The Headteacher of Godstone Village School, Mrs Goodwin, contacted Leatherhead Animal Rescue who were able to catch the swan and reunite him with his mate on Godstone Village Pond.
